Can professional sofa cleaning remove every stain?
No. Professional cleaning can remove soil and may improve or remove stains, but it cannot guarantee that every visible mark will disappear. Lost colour, worn fibres and damaged upholstery need a different discussion. The fabric, the substance, the time it has been there and previous attempts all matter.
Show us the marks that bother you most. We will discuss which may improve, which may remain and what is included in the clean, so you can decide whether to book.
At CLB Makati, our 48-hour workmanship policy covers concerns about the quality of our work and free correction of those issues. It is not a guarantee of complete stain removal or restoration of damaged material.
Is it dirt, fading or worn fabric?
A surface deposit is something on the upholstery: crumbs, dust, dried food or another substance. A visible colour change can be more complicated. A pale mark after a cleaning product spill may be a change to the original colour rather than a deposit waiting to be extracted.
Wear is different again. A frequently used seat may have flattened, abraded or frayed fibres. Removing dirt can help you see that condition more clearly, but it does not replace the missing material. The same applies to a torn seam or foam that no longer supports you.
| What you notice | Useful information | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| A dark armrest | Where people rest their hands; earlier products used | That colour alone identifies the soil |
| A pale patch | Any bleach, cosmetic or cleaning-product spill | That repeated extraction will restore colour |
| A ring around an old spot | What was spilled and how it was treated | That another home mixture will solve it |
| A rough or thin seat | Fabric age, wear and close-up photographs | That cleaning repairs worn fibres |
The stain's history is useful information
Tell the cleaner what happened, even if you are not certain. “Coffee, probably with milk, about two weeks ago” is more helpful than “brown stain.” If someone else used the sofa before you, it is fine to say the cause is unknown.
Previous treatment matters just as much. Keep the bottle or photograph the label of anything already applied. Say whether the area was rubbed, soaked, heated or washed. There is no advantage in hiding a home attempt; the next person needs to know what they are working on.
Kärcher's upholstery guidance notes that older stains can be harder to identify. Tell us what you know about a stain before the visit, even if its cause is uncertain.
What to do when a spill has just happened
Remove loose solids gently and blot liquid with a clean, absorbent white cloth. Avoid aggressive rubbing. Then check the furniture's instructions before adding a product or more water. If the permitted treatment is unclear, pause and ask for advice rather than layering several remedies.
A product suitable for a carpet is not automatically suitable for the sofa beside it. The manufacturer's care method should guide what goes on its fabric. “Natural” and “household” do not tell you whether an ingredient is compatible.
Take a photograph before the appearance changes and record what you have done. That gives the cleaner a starting point. It also helps distinguish the original spill from a ring or colour change that appeared during treatment.
When another treatment is the wrong purchase
If your main concern is sagging foam, cleaning is unlikely to deliver the change you want. Ask an upholsterer about the cushion or support. If the main issue is a rip, a failing seam or widespread fabric wear, repair or reupholstery may be the more relevant enquiry.
For a strong odour, explain whether it seems limited to the surface or returns after the furniture has dried. A clean-looking cover does not establish that contamination deeper in the item has been addressed. Pet accidents need a separate assessment of the affected area; see our pet-urine treatment information.
You can still choose cleaning when some marks will remain. The decision depends on your goal. Cleaning a serviceable sofa before guests arrive and restoring a damaged sofa for resale are different expectations, even if the furniture is the same.
How to judge the result fairly
Photograph the sofa before the visit and after it has dried, from the same angle and in similar light. Include a wide view as well as close-ups. A wet patch under a ceiling light is not a fair comparison with dry fabric beside a sunny window.
At the end of the visit, review the agreed surfaces and discuss marks that remain visible. Ask which observations should wait until the fabric is dry. If a concern appears later, send a photograph and say when you first noticed it.
For a CLB workmanship concern, contact us within 48 hours of completion of cleaning. Do not wait past that reporting window because you are unsure whether a mark will settle. Tell us what you can see and we can discuss the next step. Drying itself has no universal deadline; our drying guide explains the variables.
Common stain questions
Can you promise a result from a photograph?
A photo helps establish the scope and identify questions. It cannot show every property of the fibre, backing or earlier treatment. We can discuss likely results from photos, then check the fabric and marks in person before treatment.
Will a second clean remove what the first one did not?
Not necessarily. First find out why the mark remains. Repeating the same process without understanding the problem can add moisture and cost without achieving your goal. Explain the previous method and the result before asking for another visit.
Should I still clean a sofa with permanent marks?
Possibly, if the sofa is otherwise serviceable and you want accumulated dirt removed. Decide with the remaining mark in mind. Our sofa-cleaning page explains the service; send the mark and the full item together so the quote reflects the actual job.
