Upholstery Cleaning Codes: W, S, W-S and X

Before you book sofa cleaning in Makati, check the care label. W, S, W-S and X help identify permitted care, but the manufacturer’s complete instructions matter more than the letter alone. A water-compatible spot cleaner does not automatically mean a sofa can be hot-water extracted.

What do upholstery cleaning codes mean?

These letters describe care restrictions, not a cleaning quality rating. Read them together with the instructions supplied for your exact furniture.

W — water-based spot-cleaning products
Follow the specified product and method. This does not automatically permit saturation, machine washing or extraction.
S — water-free solvent care
Do not substitute water or a home spray extractor. Ask the furniture maker about suitable specialist care.
W-S or WS — water-based or solvent options
The permitted method still depends on the manufacturer’s instructions and the stain.
X — vacuuming or light brushing
Do not apply liquid or foam cleaners.

Does a W label mean professional extraction is safe?

No. A code allowing a water-based spot product does not approve every process that uses water. A cleaner still needs the full care instructions and an assessment of the item before choosing a method.

At CLB Cleaning Makati, hot-water extraction is used for suitable fabric upholstery. If the furniture instructions rule it out, that service is not the right fit for the item. Sending the label before booking helps us establish that early.

For general background on the equipment, Kärcher explains upholstery cleaning and spray extraction. The machine’s capabilities do not replace your furniture’s care instructions.

What if the sofa has no readable care label?

Look for the original receipt, model name or care booklet, or ask the retailer for the instructions. If the label is damaged, photograph what remains along with the sofa. Do not infer permission to wet-clean from the colour or from how the fabric feels.

For a booking enquiry, describe what you know and what is uncertain. A photo can help us discuss scope, but it cannot establish every property of a fabric or its filling. We may need more information before confirming that extraction is appropriate.

Can I wash a cushion cover if it has a zip?

A zip is not a washing instruction. Check whether the manufacturer allows the cover to be removed and laundered, and under which conditions. Do not assume that the care instructions for a removable decorative pillow also apply to the main sofa cushions.

If covers have already been washed or treated, include that in your enquiry. Tell us what product or machine was used and whether the appearance changed afterwards. This helps the assessment without requiring you to guess the cause of a mark.

What to send before a Makati sofa-cleaning booking

  1. A full view of the sofa, showing the seating layout and any additional pieces.
  2. A readable photo of the care label and, if available, the model or retailer details.
  3. Close-ups of stains and a short description of spills, odour or earlier treatment.
  4. Your area, building access requirements and when you need to use the furniture.

You can copy this message: “I would like an assessment for this sofa in [area]. The label says [code/instructions, or unknown]. The main concern is [problem]. It has previously been treated with [product, or none known].”

Once suitability is established, our sofa-cleaning service page explains the visit and confirmed prices. For the room and access arrangements, use the condo preparation checklist. Plan time afterwards with the sofa drying guide.
